Between this story, the cable sabotage (https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-sabotage-undersea-cab...), the UK spy network (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqx0v599wqvo) and a bunch more this is clearly real.

Can someone explain what Russia gets out of this? I would have thought if anything it would be more likely to harden attitudes towards them.
