I tried it and it found businesses near me. When I asked how it knew where I lived, it said "You didn’t say, but your request triggered a location-based search. The search engine likely used your IP address to estimate your location. I used the results it returned."

Yes, I expected the same reply with me, instead it told me it was a mistake and that it doesn't know. In other words, it told a lie.
