It is indeed ironic that a campaign of modernisation which has transformed India into an ICT powerhouse, specifically focussed on software, has in turn entrenched English as a necessary tool for that economic activity.

Is suspect that it also applies in the call centre marketplace.

Neither industry targets the former colonial power specifically: the US would be the predominant market for the services alongside Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland as well as Britain, and those economies who realise cheaper Indian service supply is unlikely to be available in their mother tongue but is available in the modern lingua franca.

That, and resistance to Hindi (-northern) from economic powerhouses (-southern)

Bangalore is in south India. The Indian diaspora probably lives mostly in English speaking nations. Hindi nationalism isn't the primary driving force for this cohort I would think.
