Why don't more people claim flight compensation they're legally owed?

I recently built a tool to help people claim flight compensation with AI. What surprised me most wasn’t the legal side - it was how few people even know they’re entitled to money when their flight is delayed or canceled.
Billions go unclaimed each year. The process is confusing, slow, and buried in bureaucracy.
Curious to hear: • Has anyone here actually claimed compensation? • What stopped you (or others you know) from trying? • Why haven’t airlines been forced to simplify this?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

You're absolutely right about awareness, most people simply don’t know they’re entitled to compensation. And even if they do, the process often feels too complex or discouraging. Curious to see how regulation, technology, and public awareness will shape this in the coming years.

I have claimed compensation a couple of times, but the Airlines try to make it as difficult as possible. I woke in both cases. (It helps that my wife is a lawyer).
