Hi HN,

I built Own or Rent (https://ownorent.com) after getting frustrated with existing rent vs. buy calculators that hide assumptions and use confusing jargon.

What's different: - 100% transparent calculations - no hidden fees or confusing math - Results in under 5 minutes without lengthy forms - Public REST API for developers building financial apps or LLM integrations - Clear breakdown of mortgage payments, taxes, maintenance, and opportunity costs

The API is particularly useful for chatbots, financial advisory platforms, or any app that needs reliable rent vs. buy calculations.

Built this because every calculator I tried felt like it was designed to push you toward buying. This one just gives you the math.
