What do you think the long-term support looks like for these devices? Are the people who get these implants just fucked once the company drops support or do they make any kind of long-term promises? Ideally they would have some clause that if the company shuts down or stops supporting the product you can retain a license to all the IP + source code access in order to be able to hire someone in case maintenance is required... Current law guarantees don't seem adequate for this level of implant. You really should have full source code access to anything that gets implanted in your body.

Neuralink is pretty far along, with actual humans wearing their hardware inside their body. It’ll be a while before Altman gets anywhere. I also find him to be a lot less trustworthy than Musk. Whatever you think of Musk’s politics or his track record of exaggerating what his companies build, he did give the world Tesla and SpaceX and has also surprisingly now come out as a big critic of the current administration for wasteful spending. If I were to have a medical product inserted into my body, it would be easier to choose Musk between the two of them. I have an uneasy feeling about Sam Altman and his motivations. Interviews he’s taken on AI only bolster my feelings, as he seems to dodge every direct question.
