Micromanaging life isn’t ideal, but getting in the habit of using a calendar isn’t a bad thing. I’m often frustrated by adults who seem unwilling or unable to manage a calendar. It wasn’t until my job seemed dictated my daily meetings that I learned to lean on a calendar. That skill bled into my personal life and has largely been a net positive. Though I don’t micromanage my personal calendar, it has the big tent poles for the day; most days are empty.

Developing this skill earlier, if not taken to an extreme, seems like a good thing. I still run into people early in their career who have trouble remembering to look at their calendar and miss meetings. It’s a problem and holds them back early on and frustrates everyone around them.
