Ask HN: Is the current Windows' GUI the final form?

Generally speaking, Windows' GUI has not changed much since at least Windows XP. It's specially similar between 10 and 11. Have we reached the final form? If not, what can be an improvement?

You could argue that conceptually, Windows hasn't changed drastically since Windows 95. Yes, there are a lot of quality of life improvements but the start menu with task bar, drop down menus and three window controls at the top are basically unchanged.

UI's for the most part are a mostly solved problem. You either go the dock path of Mac/Gnome or the task bar path of Windows/KDE/Cinnamon. There have been other attempts but nothing has really stuck.

I suspect with Windows 12, they will move the start menu back to the left and management will have met their KPI's and happy days for them. Time to integrate Co-pilot into the command terminal.
