As a reminder, "The Connected Internet" [note capitalization as it is a proper noun] is the infrastructure on which the Web runs. But it carries more than the web. It carries (S)FTP, SMTP, IRC, RT(S)P, etc. The 'net and the web are not the same thing.
But... while I'm not sure we should toss out the web, dude makes some decent points.
