Delivering big projects can’t be taken for granted.

The Eurotunel seemed to have been delayed when they belatedly realised they hadn’t realised cooling was needed for all the fast trains passing through.

The Elizabeth line seemed to be beset by bonuses for management, skewering things, and the realisation that everything needed to have paperwork evidence for safety.

Meanwhile Paris is building a huge new phase of the RER, and Melbourne is re-jiggering their rail system too.

HS2 and the cost keep escalating.
