Ask HN: What happened to W3C's PROV initiative to add provenance to the Web?

W3C published a set of in-depth documents in 2013 to standardize the specification and sharing of provenance data for web resources [1]. In this context, "Provenance is information about entities, activities, and people involved in producing a piece of data or thing, which can be used to form assessments about the data or thing's quality, reliability or trustworthiness."
However, it doesn't seem to have been adopted virtually anywhere. Although follow-up submissions have still been made as late as 2024 [2].
Does anyone know what the current status is or why it failed to gain momentum?
