At least the old, good notepad is still available in Win11. It's not in the start menu and there's no shortcut to it, but you can set those up without much trouble.

The new notepad misses the mark for me entirely. It's no good as a minimal text editor anymore, but it's also not a full-featured text editor. It's somewhere in between, so fills a need I don't have.

This is just giving normal people something nice. Everyone already has their text editor of choice. I do like the completely plain text editing of notepad but oh well. I wonder what the saved formats are though by default, rich text is annoying.

I just tried it as I apparently have this feature on my Win11 machine, the formatting options are there in a Notepad window. After formatting some text, upon saving I was asked if I wanted to save as markdown or plain text. Naturally, it said I'd lose formatting if I chose plain text.

If I create a new file, type some text, and don't use any formatting, it doesn't give the option on save - it presumes plain text.
