Destroying Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities was never the real goal, it's just a convenient casus belli (the same as WMDs in Iraq). Ted Cruz openly stated in an interview last week that the goal is regime change in Iran.

The goal with these preliminary strikes is to get Iran to retaliate, and use that as justification for further escalation.

I’d argue the initial strikes was a cover to exfiltrate the scientists and understand how far along they were and get intelligence about locations of the fissile material and target it.

Cruz is an attention whore. I wouldn't trust him if he said one plus one is two if it got him air time
