Ask HN: LinkedIn removes your profile as precaution?

72 hourss ago,for no apparent reason that I can tell, Linkedin restricted my 15-yr old account.

It then asked me to submit a gov ID and take a photo.

Thereafter, no email receipt was sent. no case #.

"Your account has been temporarily restricted as a precaution"

Why did this happen? We take proactive steps to secure your account when we detect potential unauthorized access. Signs that your account may have been compromised include account access from unfamiliar locations or devices, or unusual activities such as multiple attempts to change passwords or critical settings.

What can you do next? To help you keep your account safe and regain access, we’ll first need to confirm you’re the valid account owner. Please submit a government-issued ID to start the process.

A customer support representative will contact you within 48 hours with more information about your account and the status of restoring your access.

It's already been 72hrs..I'm even on their Premium Plan. No contact # to call. Nothing.

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

I'd just comply and hope for the best. To me, this actually seems reasonable. I once reported a connection while they were spiraling into what seemed like a psychotic episode that they were publishing in real-time to their LI page. It seemed real, but I reported him just in-case he'd been compromised, and at the very least to give him a chance to delete his posts before his account came back online.

yeah but 72 hours? that is unacceptable for a 26B company owned by M$.

72 hours doesn't seem very long to go without my LI account, but I don't pay for it, find the platform next to useless, and I'm not a recruiter. Maybe you can call someone if you do pay for it?

26B reasons they don’t give a shit about artyr_makly unfortunately

Happened to me too. No way will I give Microsoft my ID in 2025 for the privilege of recruiter spam.

Trying to appeal will probably not help your account but still something you can do. I suggest see it as their loss not yours and move on.

I don't think I've used LinkedIn in 15 years. It's an awful site.

blocking account access is one thing. blocking the profile from the public view is incredibly harmful. WTF.
