Losing an export market might idle a factory or two, but losing access to irreplaceable imports could cripple the entire economy.

Equally some exports are vital for their earnings, and some imports are inessential luxuries.

A lot of jobs depend on selling inessential luxuries. Of course a lot of jobs depend on exporting too.
