It ultimately hurts more than it helps. We've already been there, seen that and done that.
American automobiles in the 1970s were pure trash. The reason --- lack of competition. The Big 3 enjoyed a captive market that they effectively divvied up amongst each other by selling similar trash.
The solution --- competition from Japan.
A replay of this scenario with China won't "Make America Great Again".
Funny how no one ever talks about bringing back this sort of "greatness". And they also fail to mention that corporations paid much higher taxes back then.
The "greatness" that everyone keeps talking about is highly selective.
