This papers describes interesting research into the question of whether trees communicate with each other using the opportunity afforded by a solar eclipse to measure electrical signals in and between spruce trees in the Dolomites Area of the Italian Alps.

The resulting analyses indicate that trees do anticipate events like this hours in advance, possibly depending on the age of the tree, with older trees potentially having a memory or anticipatory function for events that are cyclical and predictably timed.
