RFK and his followers are huge proponent of dietary supplements, and yet they insist on targeting this out of all of the possible other vitamins and minerals because it's benefits are perhaps the most widely accepted.

It’s almost mental illness. I know a family where they filter their water to remove the “chemicals” but eat peach pits for the cyanide compounds that supposedly have health effects.
The common theme is to reject the maximally accepted wisdom in favour of the least accepted. The greater the difference the better.
There is a type of comfort gained by discovering “secret knowledge” while avoiding “the trap everyone else fell into”.
