Show HN: Muky v3 – Added Spotify to my kid-friendly iOS audio player
The technical challenge was building a unified interface across both Apple Music and Spotify APIs while maintaining the same UX. Also implemented smart caching for offline sync across both services.
Due to Spotify's API quota limitations (https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/concepts...), users need to create their own Spotify app through the developer platform and connect it to Muky. It's an extra setup step, but then it works seamlessly.
I've tested this with users of varying technical expertise and the setup process has been manageable across skill levels.
This brings Muky to feature parity across the two largest music services while keeping the same safe, kid-focused experience. Parents control exactly what music and audiobooks kids can access, and your own streaming algorithms stay clean since kids aren't browsing your main account.
Looking for feedback from:
Parents: What features are still missing for your family's needs?
Technical folks: Better approaches for Spotify integration? The current developer app requirement feels clunky but seems necessary given API limits
Excited to hear your thoughts!
