Ask HN: How's the job search coming along?

I was laid off last June and have sort of given up on finding something that is actually worth my value. Would love to hear others experiences with job search. Anything working well in particular to source or land new roles?

I was laid off in May 2023. At that point I had been a JavaScript developer for 15 years. I was sad at the loss of income, but this became a huge positive for me.

I had grown really tired of JavaScript employment. I love writing applications in JavaScript/TypeScript and continue to spend a significant portion of my personal time doing so, but I cannot stand JavaScript for work. I felt like I was constant surrounded by people who couldn't program, couldn't write emails, and really could function in any real capacity without copy and paste of familiar programming patterns.

Being laid off for 6 months was really stressful and I really began to double myself, but now I am in a different line of work and its so much better. Soon after joining this new line of work I was promoted into management of a software team.
