When I got a tour of a local hydropower facility 30 years ago, they showed us the computer station - with dot matrix printer! - where the daily plan for power generation (meaning: convert this much water flow into torque from the turbines and therefore megawatts generated as a function of time) was received and printed.
I'm sure it's been streamlined since, but "humans in the loop" should be essential for large infrastructure like this.
