Countries like Canada need higher taxes to fund things like universal healthcare.

Companies in the US generally offer health care plans which also add to their cost of doing business.

Canada and US trade is far more complicated than having high taxation.
What's happening right now... is that the liberal party alleged that Trump/MAGA had invaded Canada and had a military occupation outside Parliament in Ottawa; intending to overthrow the government(which if true, would have been an emergency). This was justification for using the emergency act. Our courts have now determined this was utterly false and was used to unconstitutionally crush a peaceful protest.
But better yet, the liberals seized bank accounts of people who werent even in Ottawa and did nothing at all; many of which were dual citizens and were MAGA. The judge even commented that the media had grossly misrepresented the protest. Unsurprisingly each journalist who did not get named by the judge were terminated for cause about a week before the judge's ruling came out. All within a week across multiple organizations.
Trump is now back in power and during the election recommended/endorsed 7 times for Canadians to vote for Carney. That's the same guy who was brought before congress to answer for white collar crimes/fraud in GFANZ relations. He's literally the guy Trump was running against during the US presidential election being the guy behind climate change and ESG stuff.
Canada now has a 35% tariff which is higher than China at 30%. Canada cant have free trade with the USA because the current administration sees us as the enemy and he's not wrong.
