I feel like it depends a lot on the country. There are countries where the people is asked to vote for many things. And in that sense, getting informed about what they are going to vote counts as "doing politics" to me. Not professionnally, sure, but it's not a "hobby": the vote does have an impact.
If you live in a country where the only question the people is asked is "which candidate do you hate less" every four years, of course that's a different story.

Speak for yourself. Just say "virtue signaling" while you're at it. Some people have very real concerns, because they are actually affected, not some rich bloke who wants another big tax cut because all that matters is money and nothing else.
Some people march in the streets and write elected officials. Not everyone. Not everyone who posts publicly about politics engages in politics, but many of us do. And those of us affected most by the cuts are the most active I know. Because for us, it's not a hobby it's real life.
