Please only post if you are personally looking for work. Agencies, recruiters, job boards,

There's a site for searching these posts at https://www.wantstobehired.com.
I'm a product-minded engineer who loves to think through and map out the opportunities and problems associated with developing a product.
I have founding experience and I have worked remote for much of my career, thriving with both autonomy and team-based projects. In previous roles I have worked with designers to create user-friendly interfaces and interactions from Figma designs and through customer feedback as well as building out database schemas and APIs. As a former professional athlete, I am looking to join a team where teamwork is paramount and opportunities for growth and learning from others are a daily occurrence.
I’m currently developing a SaaS application called “Great Job!,” a productivity platform for job hunters, learning roadmaps, and AI-enhanced portfolio creation workflows. I'm very interested in AI Engineering and have began to dive deeper into AI topics and use it daily to augment my coding.
Away from the computer I enjoy working out in my garage gym, playing guitar, and playing outside with my kids.
I have quite some experience dealing with LLM based applications - taming them into giving more sane answers. The best one that I have built so far lets you attach to any data sources (SQL/NoSQL/Files etc) and then just ask questions about them. Literally any question (even outside the schema) and it never makes up stuff.
If you prefer - you could directly schedule a meet @ https://calendly.com/suvarnanarayanan2g/30min?month=2025-07
If you cannot make the slots to work for the calendar above, please shoot me an email and I will do a meet at a time you are comfortable with. Cheers!

Hello!
I'm JD, a Software Engineer with experience touching many parts of the stack (frontend, backend, databases, data & ETL pipelines, you name it). Most recently, I spent several years at Google working full-stack on applications that supported our customer service teams. I then switched to working on facilitating our teams through building frameworks, teaching, and overall enabling them to quickly launch applications.
Prior to that, I spent a couple years at First Orion - a smaller data company - helping found & build out a data engineering team as one of the first engineers. We were focused on building data pipelines and models to protect our users from malicious phonecalls. If you know the phrase "Scam Likely", we were a pioneer :)
There is a noticeable gap in my resume where I was dealing with health issues from 2022 - 2024, but am looking to rejoin the software industry. I'm passionate about helping others through my work, teaching, and building tools to improve the experience for end users - including other developers.
Greetings!
I am a full-stack software engineer and sysadmin with 15+ years professional experience.
I specialize in designing and deploying systems that are lightweight, resilient, and coherent.
I work well autonomously and enjoy taking projects from prototype to production.
I have learned and utilized many different languages, frameworks, and formats over the years in service to delivering high-quality and tailored solutions to technical challenges.
If my skill set and experience sound like a good fit for your endeavor, I would like to hear from you!

I've been working on ruby on rails since 1.2. I have linux servers at home and a business-class network setup. I've created docker containers from scratch and set up AWS Fargate and all the related services to run them and connect them to a public IP address.
There are a lot of people with similar experience, what makes me different is I'm interested in understanding how the entire company works, the industry it is in, and the people who make it happen.
- I was on the board of directors for furry convention for 3 years where I learned a lot about running a business.
- Learned a bit about accounting and Human Resources from relatives. I know how to spell HIPAA correctly. :)
- I've worked with E&S insurance, student loan origination, college resume processing, and European auto parts.
- I've worked directly with C-suite on high-visibility, long-term projects.
- I've learned a bit about B2B sales and customer relations by tagging along to an insurance conference.

Senior/Staff Engineer with a deep focus on backend, ops, and architecture. I build durable, scalable systems and have a knack for mentoring teams and leading projects.
I solve problems at every level of abstraction—from the 10,000-foot view down to the code you don't have to write. My first career as a social worker and policy statistician means I never forget the 'who' and 'why' behind the technology. I've been building for the web since '95 and have worked at every stage of startup, plus solo consulting.
I have a special love for complex system design, wrangling crappy third-party APIs, and hunting down really weird bugs. I can step in as a PM in a pinch, but I'd rather work with your great PMs.
I'm looking for a team that genuinely believes their work is making the world a bit better (or even... a lot!)
I'm Eric, full-stack software engineer with 12+ YOE. Before becoming a software engineer I spent almost 10 years in sales and marketing. Holding titles such as Director of Sales and Director of Consumer services. I initially got into tech to solve my own problems, and as the saying goes, one thing led to another and I've been loving my time as a software engineer.
I specialize in full stack to the core. From DevOps/IaC to CICD to frontend styling, I'm comfortable and experienced in all aspects.
Interested in linking with companies willing to exploit all of my experience to deliver tangible impact.
Cheers!

I'm an experienced generalist software engineer typically working with early-stage startups or with clients on relatively greenfield projects.
I have strong technical foundations, good product sense, and have gone deep with AI/LLM tech both in the sense of being able to use it effectively, and in exploring the design space for products/tools leveraging it.
I've done a lot of work in developer tools and data visualization of various kinds. Data-rich, non-traditional UIs with highly optimized UX, and rapid prototyping are my forte.
I've been basically on sabbatical for a while now, mostly taking the time to learn and build with AI. At some point in early 2024 I decided: okay, time to take this seriously, and have. After the long break, I'm ready to start something new!

Hello!
I am a senior full-stack developer with over 5 years of experience building applications for the United States weather service (NOAA, NWS, OHD, NOMADS, etc.), Minnesota schools, and non-profit organizations. I started out building front-end apps and grew to love the back-end/cloud as well (it is so nice to write database/API/CMS/cloud helper programs quickly in Node, Python, Go, C++, etc.!). My most involved project was working across the stack on a hole-in-one application for the weather service that consolidates a suite of old applications. I am flexible and love wearing many hats of technologies & procedures. My previous work comrades always described me as high-spirited, excited, and always amped to take on challenging tickets (for example: I built a node.js helper application to migrate 10,000+ vanilla JS/HTML web pages to a tricky CMS).
I'm all sparkles when it comes to full-stack development! I am actively looking for remote full-time or contract work. While that for loop is running, I am deep diving into new tech/AI && full stack projects, such as the Stone King Wiki, Magic: The Gathering Assistant v2, and a touch-focused app similar to what Hans Zimmer uses as the primary console for extending his music composition capabilities.

The last 5 years I've worked in Call Center tech (Twilio based, very familiar with their APIs) and using LLMs (AI) to improve call center service (automatically analyzing call recordings for agent performance, call outcomes, customer sentiment, etc) I've mentored/taught several junior engineers when I was lead engineer as well.

Hi, I'm Andrew Trettel. I'm a scientist with a PhD in mechanical engineering looking for any potential opportunities outside of academia and research labs. I have over a decade of experience in scientific research, especially on the numerical side. I have years of experience in writing software for and running large simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) systems. I have also developed software for non-scientific purposes, like creating user interfaces for desktop applications. I have years of experience working with large datasets, including the tasks of calculating statistics and developing hypotheses/models/theories from data. I've worn many hats over the years and love learning new and interesting topics.
I enjoy root cause analysis, making data driven decisions, and improving developer experience (CI/CD, testing patterns, metrics). Comfortable tackling problems wherever they live in the stack and picking up whatever technologies are needed to ship. Previously engineering manager and technical lead with 11+ years of experience.
About: I'm a New Grad, avid reader, keeping up with AI dev, love tennis & journaling.
Looking for: engineering or devrels @ early/growth stage startup, AI-ML/inference-infrastructure/distributed computing/B2B SaaS.
Dream: Would love to build OS level orchestration layer for AI agent with shared context, enhanced actionable abilities and IPC/messaging within sandboxed env.
Past Exp: Worked on distributed ML workflow orchestration engine at an ML automations startup, used redis+k8s+python for dependency-aware task scheduling. Worked with a real-estate private equity firm on building an E2E deal sourcing platform.

Resume: https://bit.ly/3B3o65M (It links to my CV repo at Github, pinky promise. You can also visit github.com/<hnusername>.)
I'm not actively looking (hence why my resume link is obfuscated like that) but I'm at least interested in getting a feel for the market right now. That said, I'm willing to consider a position with a great fit for my skill set and career goals.
Here's my pitch: I have experience in a multitude of industries and positions. From improving legacy infra and processes in an established telco company to scaling a fast-moving startup from 200K to 2M users. In my free time, I love writing Code That Is Poetry but day-to-day I am not an idealist engineer who doesn't compromise. Well-engineered code is clean and correct but correct above all else.
Oh, also, I'm great at writing documentation. I consider myself introverted but apparently my communication skills are above average for Software Engineers. I also pride myself on my humility and modesty.
I'm currently a backend engineer developing features and improving infra for an online game with millions of daily active users. I'd love to explore other technical positions in the games industry short of joining a AAA studio because (a) I don't want to crunch and (b) my skill set does not lay that way; other tech-creative industries would also appeal to me! Another particular interest is in B2C businesses where the 'C' is software developers. I'd love to chat and network about opportunities; if you think you have a product that could benefit from my skill set, drop me a line!
Also open to FP or logic programming (lisp/clojure, haskell/scala, prolog). Especially highly formal/industrial model-driven environment.

My focus has been on browser automation and building browser agents since 2018, with 13 years of enterprise experience building dynamic data user interfaces for web and mobile. I have experience working at both medium 130 person AI companies and small, fast-moving 7 person teams wearing many different hats, which I prefer. I have been instrumental in taking multiple companies from 0 to 1, both as a consultant and as a full-time employee in media, real estate, marketing, streaming services, education, and fintech.
Currently, I have a side project building a Chrome extension using VSCode’s core libraries. I’m working on incorporating the VSCode Copilot Chat—which they released the source code for last week—to create a Copilot for the browser. [0]

Hi, I'm Alex. I'm a year post grad from CS, still looking for work. I have been biding my time by doing a variety of projects to keep busy and learn new things. Prior to this, I have done systems administration, where I managed on prem Windows servers, Hyper-V, and networking hardware for some school districts where I have studied. In my spare time, I run my own Linux homelab using Docker, Ansible, and Grafana. I use it to self-host my projects (among other things), which include a full-stack Reddit marketplace monitor with its own CI/CD pipeline. I'm a generalist who enjoys working from the infrastructure up to the application.
Honestly? I'm not picky (never was). I don't mind a chance working anywhere.

I'm a true generalist who's especially motivated by the promise of Rust, particularly in embedded contexts. I really love working close to the metal, no matter the language. Mostly though, I just want to find a place where I get to solve problems for people along with a good team. I've been in the industry for decades (in the plural), and I've been fortunate enough to do infosec, SRE, embedded work, DX/dev advocacy, Rust training, write distributed systems, and much much more. My ideal role/level is as a team lead who gets to ship code.

Hi! I've been a software engineer for around 7 years. I have experience with both front-end (mostly React), as well as back-end (mainly Python) and I'd be happy to work on either side of the stack (or both) as well as learning new things. The most important thing to me is to create a positive experience for my users.
I also like contributing to free & open-source software. Most of it is available in my GitHub profile: https://github.com/MarcAbonce
Hi, I'm Harry Altman! I was the maintainer of Truffle Debugger (https://github.com/trufflesuite/truffle/tree/develop/package...), a Solidity smart contract debugger, for 5 years. I eventually ended up writing my own decoding and encoding libraries to support it, as well as a bunch of other things.
I'm good at this sort of nitpicky work, spotting and thinking about edge cases. I like getting things exactly right, even though that obviously isn't always possible due to various constraints. I've been kind of wondering if I should get into embedded development; I find it appealing when things are low-level or similarly constrained. I've beaten Microcorruption. :) (The original levels, I haven't played the new ones.)
I'm also quite interested in unusual or obscure data formats, and working on Truffle Debugger and its associated libraries certainly involved a bunch of having to figure undocumented formats and interfaces. :) I put down above what languages I've worked substantially in but I'd say I'm a generalist and will figure out whatever you give me (I knew approximately no Javascript, Typescript, or Solidity when I started working at Consensys).
I'm a mathematician by background and in my spare time, so after the Truffle Debugger project was shut down I took some time off to focus on my mathematical projects. But now I'm looking for work again! If you need someone like me, I'm available for hire!

I'm normally a contractor for startups. Here is my freelancers post:
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44437019
I've been upskilling in machine learning using Math Academy's Mathematics for Machine Learning (top 5 in the top league last week), Andrew Ng's course and a handful of other resources.
If you look at my posts I'm highly skeptical of the hype. However there is definitely something new and profound about llms and diffusion models. I may think vibe coding is a bad idea but that doesn't mean I don't use AI in some form daily.
I'm usually a contractor but I'm willing to consider a founding engineer position at an AI startup.
Since salaries are considerably lower than my contracting rate (balanced by equity) I'll be approaching it like an investor.
If your startup is doing something genuinely unique and interesting, send me an email. We can meet up, you can pitch and we can talk shop.

Hello! I'm a software developer with lots of experience in full stack and backend development. I was most recently a developer at SirusXM Radio until I was laid off recently. The languages I've used the most are Java, C++, Ruby ( Ruby on Rails ), Python, and JavaScript. I've also worked over a year in a classified setting and I still hold a security clearance. I'm looking for a junior/entry level software engineer position.
I attended Virginia Tech for three years and studied Computer Science and Math. I got the core CS curriculum completed; the part I didn't complete were the electives. I had to stop attending because I ran out of money.
Due to my current financial situation, unfortunately I'll require a salary position - no equity only.
With all that said, I'm open to having a conversation with anyone. Thanks! :)
Strong C++/C background, systems-level orientation. I’m at home in resource-constrained, real-time, or just-plain-hostile environments. Embedded Linux, networking stacks, wireless protocols, FPGAs, weird bootloaders—if it’s not glamorous and people usually avoid it, there’s a good chance I’ve done it. Currently getting into Rust and Zephyr in my free time. Also very very strong background in networking/Wi-Fi, with several talks, published papers, and patents.
Looking for roles where software is the product, not an afterthought. I’d prefer to avoid places where Jira boards are sacred texts, architecture is decided by slide deck, and everyone’s calendar is 95% “syncs” to discuss work nobody’s doing. If your team measures value in working code and shipped products, and not in "alignment", we’ll probably get along.
Spoken at conferences (NetworkX, prpl Summit, SCTE Expo), given demos to customers, and generally enjoy making things that actually work.
If you’ve got an interesting problem, and you aren’t staffed wall-to-wall with MBAs LARPing as engineers via spreadsheet, shoot me an email.
Technologies:

Hi HN!
I'm an experienced full stack web developer + devops engineer with 6+ years' experience working in small teams and driving change. In my last role I brought a fintech product from 0 to EUR 300.000 in ARR while leading a small team. I have so far only worked in small teams that drive big change and have a product ownership mindset. Recently I've delved into functional programming with Haskell after working with Node.js/Python for the better part of a decade. I'm also a quick learner and having dealt with lots of technical debt in the past, I can get up to speed with any new technologies / codebases quickly.
I work best in IC capacity and I'm looking to join a fast/impactful team that needs to get things done. Thanks for reading!

Anyway, *I am hungry*. Hungry for growth, that is. Please reach out with any opportunities you may have.
I run a consulting company (atomweight.io), and have provided infosec, devops, and software engineering services to a variety of clients. I am open to both full-time and contract engagements.
I don't particularly enjoy coasting or clocking out at 5pm (mostly since I'm a night owl), so I'm looking for opportunities where I can move fast, build, ship fast, contribute the most value, and grow. If my skills and experience seem like a good fit for your needs, please reach out!
My latest projects have been in full-stack edge ML R&D, memory controller firmware dev for POWER servers, and chip bringup/testing for Z mainframes.
I'm passionate about modular synthesis and tinkering with all sorts of analog circuits and DSP. Currently upskilling in analog PCB design and refining my abilities in FPGA development. Also WIP on a 3D-printed robot arm to practice control systems and actuation.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer with 7 years of experience in mechanical design and hardware test and automation in manufacturing, with 3 years more focused on software integration. I've worn many hats across mechanical, electrical, and software design responsibilities. Always eager to learn more and share experience through mentorship. Most interested in mechanical design and automation roles in robotics, green tech, lab automation, or other hardware areas, but open to alternate background software roles.

I'm a developer who believes code isn't valuable unless it's used. That's why I start with conversations, not commits. I work to understand real problems before reaching for shiny new packages. I build tools that are simple, effective, and easy to adopt. My goal is always to solve the problem and make sure people know there’s a solution.
In my next role, I'm looking to work with a team that values clarity and impact. I'm especially interested in data heavy environments where thoughtful tooling can make workflows better.
Most recently, I built [Buckaroo](https://github.com/paddymul/buckaroo) an open source data table for Jupyter using Pandas/Polars. It combines fast rendering, summary stats, and a low-code UI. It scratches an itch I've had for over a decade and has already streamlined my own analysis workflow.

I’m a builder and coach at heart, and will happily build software, do product development, architect systems, or step into a leadership / management role. That said, you don’t want me to be your interface designer, but I can implement someone else’s design just fine.
It seems I do my best work as a strong #2, supporting a leader that values ideas and feedback, whether in a management or IC role. (Working Geniuses: invention and enablement. Working Frustrations: galvanizing and tenacity)
Remote: Yes. PST timezone preferred.
Willing to relocate: No, but open to occasional travel to an office within reason.
Technologies: Lots. If it has a manual or documentation, I'm happy to learn it. If it doesn't, I'll read the source. See résumé for a more complete but not exhaustive list. Most of my language experience has been with Javascript and Golang, but I've used Python, Java and Lua professionally and Lisp and Haskell for fun. I would most prefer to work with Golang but open to using any language I've used or learning other languages. My strongest skillsets revolve around making highly distributed systems highly reliable and fast (millions of requests per second across thousands of machines across multiple datacenters globally). I'm an expert in software testing and CI/CD. I am mostly a back-end engineer, but I'm not a stranger to front-end work.

I most recently spent just shy of 10 years at Uber (2014 to 2024) before taking a sabbatical for personal pursuits and I'm now looking to get back to work. I was a staff software engineer at Uber before I left. While at Uber, I worked on some of the largest, most complex stateful systems/services. Prior to Uber, I worked at a started from the seed round through series B. I'm no stranger to any size environment from a small startup all the way through a large mature corporation and everything in between. I'm open to consider companies of all sizes, but my preference is a company at series B or later that has product/market fit and is looking to scale the business, improve reliability and implement best practices.
I'm a long-time HN member with almost 9000 karma/points, but posting on a new account to maintain some degree of anonymity for my primary account.

I'm Hung, a software engineer with 6+ years of experience. I have worked in different types of environments: from small, start-up-like, to medium-sized (~100-200 engineers), to big-corporation (~2000 engineers). I've built systems from scratch and scaled large distributed systems handling millions reqs/s. As a result, I have both the practicality and adaptivity of a start-up developer, and the awareness of scale, reliability and process of a software engineer.
I read extensively and learn systematically, not only software engineering but also a wide range of other subjects. My portfolio (https://portfolio.hungcq.com) showcases side projects driven by curiosity and a deep interest in learning. I enjoy exploring the full stack, experimenting with technologies such as the clouds, workflow engine, service mesh and observability stacks, ML, and LLMs.
(I think) I'm up for any challenge. I'm ambitious, I'm confident in myself. But I'm also humble enough to learn quickly from my mistake, and to work well with others.

Hi! I’m Wale, a full-stack engineer with ~8 years of experience building fast, user-friendly web (& mobile) apps. I've worked across several early-stage startups and solo projects, shipping products end to end.
Lately I’ve been especially interested in LLM/AI interoperability, building systems where language models plug into real data, actions, and workflows. But I’m open to anything smart, ambitious, and well-scoped.
If you're working on something interesting and need someone who can move fast, think clearly, and build reliably, I'd love to hear from you.

Hi! I’m Melissa, a software engineer with a front-end focus and 4 years of professional experience.
I’m aiming for full-time, but I’m open to contract and part-time roles as well, depending on the project. I thrive in environments with a strong engineering culture that fosters initiative, ownership, collaboration, and transparent communication. I have experience in most stages of a product’s lifecycle, including software engineering, customer research, product design, and product analytics.
If your team needs a positive, multi-faceted contributor who can get things done, let’s have a zoom call! I can bring a ton of value to your team, and I’d love to learn all about the problems you’re working to solve.

Hello! I'm Ricardo, a Full-stack Engineer with 12y+ of professional experience, and a strong emphasis on backend development. Additionally, I hold an MBA and have prior experience in startups, administration and financial analysis.
For over a decade, I worked at the same company, designing, developing, and deploying a suite of enterprise applications serving 750+ active daily users. These systems have operated seamlessly and unattended for the past year and a half, showcasing my commitment to building robust and reliable software.
Most recently, I contributed to a YC S24 startup, leading the development of several MVP features such as external service integrations, TOTP-based MFA, and user-facing workflows.
I'm passionate about solving complex problems and creating efficient, scalable solutions. I'm particularly drawn to projects that align with my ethical values, avoiding industries that harm the environment, compromise health, or raise ethical concerns. I aim to contribute positively to the world through my work.
Feel free to reach out!
You’re a founder with a small, engineering-heavy team. You’ve got early revenue, a growing user base, and real traction, but no time to keep talking to users. You’ve outgrown founder-led support, and now you need someone to own everything user-facing.
I’m that person.
At Pythagora (YC W24), I was the first customer hire. I built DevRel, support, docs, demos, community, and launch content from zero. I set up systems to pull user insights from Discord, GitHub, Reddit, and email and turned that into product direction. I ran influencer campaigns, launched features, and shipped full-stack demo apps to tell the product story.
Before that, I spent 7 years at Streak (YC S11), leading technical support, building internal tooling in SQL, Zapier, and BigQuery, and working closely with the founders to guide product.
I'm also a software engineer. I’ve built internal tools, demo apps, and full-stack open-source projects, including a deploy preview framework I documented in a full technical case study.
Looking for a small, sharp team with early traction, ideally post-launch with signs of real user pull, but still pre-scale. A place where I can be the bridge between users and engineers, and help drive growth without the fluff.

Like this Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work, but I am open to work on any interesting project. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so I am in the process to relocate to Africa.
I have more than a decade of experience running a company, doing software development, support and training and mentoring adults and students, as well as working on educational projects, and I am willing to take on a mixture of roles as needed to support a project.
I value good teamwork over fancy tech, and I don't shy away from working on legacy code. I am primarily motivated by solving problems, so let me help you solve your problems.
I am open to work for a company anywhere as long as the work can be done fully remote from Africa.
While I could find a job elsewhere I believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location I am serving. Whether it is through direct contact with clients and users or just by being part of a local community and learning about the reality of living there.
In addition, I want to use some of my income to hire local interns and junior developers and train them in order to pass on my experience. I also sponsor children that otherwise can't afford to go to school (see my website). If you want to support this, I would love to work with you. Also if you are interested in hiring African developers yourself. I can help you build up a team for you.

Hi, I’m Karolina. I design things people actually want to click – not because they’re nudged or tricked, but because they feel seen and understood.
I’ve worked across tech, travel, and e-commerce blending UX design, content strategy, and community building to shape digital experiences that are clear, inclusive, and human.
I'm currently open to new collaborations. That said, if you're building something useful, and ethical – I’d love to chat.
In the meantime, I’m also building my own project around neurodiversity and ethical tech, and documenting the process in my portfolio – https://linktr.ee/karohalik_designer. Feel free to follow along or say hi!

Hello, my name is Jesse.
I'd describe myself as a competent generalist and a lifelong learner. I'm frequently working on something I've never done before.
My most recent professional experience has been about a year at a semiconductor startup where I wrote prototypes for a compiler and a cycle simulator.
One of my personal projects of ~10 years is a 3D game engine. Working on it has taught me a great deal about systems and graphics programming. It runs on Windows, Linux and Web (WASM/WebGL). I chose to build it without any libraries (barring the CRT for startup), which began as a learning exercise, but has taught me the value of simplicity.
I've also been working on a metaprogramming system for C & CPP. Think templates/constexpr, but significantly more ergonomic. It turns out I have a small passion for compilers. It currently generates many tens of thousands of lines of code for my game engine project including containers and an interactive realtime data visualization/editor.
On the optimization side of things, I recently wrote the world's fastest open-source AVX2 Perlin noise implementation, and wrote about the process on my blog. I beat the state-of-the-art by ~1.8x, which took me about two weeks.
That's the cliff-notes on my technical background. As a person I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I like the phrase "have strong opinions, weakly held". Outside of work I enjoy surfing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, rock-climbing and beer!
Cheers, Jesse

Hi, I'm Michael Geary. I've programmed in many languages and environments over the years. Some of my current interests are:
• Aviation and geographic data. For example, airspace and obstacle data importers for Wing; election results and voter information maps for Google; many interactive maps for other companies.
• Hardware interfacing. In a way, I am a "full stack" developer, but my stack may involve a front end to a piece of hardware rather than the cloud. I first got into programming via ham radio, so RF hardware remains an interest.
• Designing and building APIs. Too often an API is designed by exposing the internals of whatever system provides the API. My philosophy is the opposite: start with the apps. I like to build a series of sample apps before starting on the API. This way I can imagine what API will make those apps and others like them easy to build.
• Talk with users! I don't like to sit in a back room cranking out code. I want to make sure it's the right code for what my users need, and that it's easy to maintain and improve as we learn more about what they want.
Open to full time or contract.
I look forward to talking with you!

One of my most impressive accomplishments is building a social networking platform from scratch, where I now serve as the CTO, leading a team of 7 engineers. I've helped grow the company from inception to securing $3M in seed funding by single-handedly architecting a scalable backend infrastructure using Django, PostgreSQL, and Redis, supporting over 600,000 users with 99.9% uptime by hosting it on Kubernetes. Additionally, I designed and deployed a real-time data pipeline with Kafka and ClickHouse, enabling ingestion of 1M+ daily events. My work also included implementing advanced search capabilities (semantic + keyword based) and working on a real-time, voice based AI-powered interview platform.
You can also checkout my latest project at https://semaphore.chat. The is a chat application that offers a streamlined, no-nonsense AI chat experience. It provides access to multiple large language models (LLMs) from various vendors. Key features include markdown rendering of AI outputs, syntax highlighting for code, and the ability to display Mermaid.js diagrams on a canvas. The app supports real-time synchronization and resumable streams using Zero (sync engine), enabling users to share links, and allows for collaborative use of LLMs with peers. Authentication is handled via Google OAuth, the database is Postgres, frontend is in NextJS, self-hosted on an Hetzner server. You can checkout the source code here: https://github.com/codingCoffee/semaphore
Ideally I'd like to work for a product startup in capacity as the CTO or engineering manager or staff / principal engineer. (Not super interested in crypto or Web3)

I’m a web and app developer with over 15 years of professional experience. I’ve worked at startups, mid-sized companies, and large corporations including Apple, eBay, and the Comcast Silicon Valley Innovation Center. Since starting freelance work in 2020, I’ve done a lot of work with Rust, Stripe payment APIs, and multiple GPT/LLM APIs. I specialize in full-stack web development, but I’m also experienced in iOS development, server administration, database design, API integrations and more. I'm primarily available for freelance work (short and medium term contracts) through my own LLC, but I'm very flexible when it comes to when and how I can provide value to your team/project.
I wanna do something with science or something that'll benefit humanity. I'd love to work with AI or ML or complexity science. I'd love to do deep research or build or improve something on the cutting edge. I want to merge into or absorb some mission and team somewhere like The Thing. I want to solve really weird problems with really intelligent people.
I have to admit that this possibility seems and feels pretty unlikely, though. Which is fine, because I'm currently employed, paid well, and working on things I find interesting and that benefit a vulnerable population :)

Hi there! I'm Dylan Fitzgerald, a software engineer with a knack for bridging the gap between technology and team dynamics. With a technical background in Ruby on Rails, Elixir, and DevOps, I excel in elevating the quality of projects while fostering a harmonious team environment. My years of consulting across the industry give me perspective on what works—and doesn't—with teams and process. In particular, I thrive on turning the implicit into deliberate decisions.
I've mostly consulted over the last seven years or so, but am open to going in-house for the right fit. Going deep on Elixir or learning a new culture by getting out of the state for a while would be compelling. (I've lived and worked outside the US for years previously.)
- Full-stack development with a focus on Ruby on Rails and Elixir ecosystems.
- Expert implementation of TDD (particularly RSpec) ensuring reliable, maintainable code.
- Process, communication, and goal refinement within your team.
- Mking informed decisions for your team and tech stack.
- DevOps practices to streamline your deployment and infrastructure management.
- Well-versed in using agentic AI tooling (my daily driver is Claude Code these days), and happy to explore and demo how this can accelerate you and your team.
My training in Shape Up and cross-industry exposure helps me tailor strategies specific to your team’s dynamics. I thrive in collaborative settings, helping leadership and teams navigate through their challenges to achieve exemplary results.
Past engagements have seen me providing code review services to hundreds of developers (junior to CTO level), and driving process improvements that enhance team cohesion and project delivery.
Let’s explore how we can build great stuff together!
Remote: Yes. I prefer this way of working.
Willing to relocate: No.

I am currently working as a software engineer for a large web hosting company. I'd like to change roles to work somewhere I can learn more and work remotely full-time. I'd really appreciate a team that values simplicity. When writing HTTP APIs in Golang, I'd like to be able to use just the standard lib, instead of a Perl compiler that transforms a set of YAML files into a gargantuan caricature of an enterprise Java web server.
I am an excellent communicator, that is probably my greatest strength. I'm curious, I'm honest, and I'm kind. My favorite feedback from a manager that I've gotten is that I get along with everyone. I greatly appreciate logical rigor, and make a sincere effort to regularly examine my beliefs, in order to discard useless or false ones. I have a solid mathematical background - my undergrad and master's were both in mathematics, with a specialization in theoratical computer science and discrete math, and I regularly practice maths, often with friends, for the fun of it. I love software. If you want some examples of my latest work, I encourage you to go look at my codeberg account:

I am a seasoned (>13 years experience) full-stack staff-to-principal-level software engineer/consultant specializing in the backend, systems architecture, platform engineering, internal tools, prototyping, and data engineering. In addition to strong programming and architectural skills, I'm a force multiplier for any team in either role through the three T's -- teaching, talking, and tooling.
In the past, I've taught a number of scientists and students to code in python; I've led and managed a number of high-impact engineering teams of up to 12; and pioneered a number of no- and low-code solutions for stream processing, data model and query generation, form building, workflow systems, and front-end construction for a variety of industries, including those with strong regulatory requirements and complex business rules such as healthcare and fintech. >10% of all medicare applications and millions of individuals currently flow through pioneering no-code systems I conceived and built and have ran in production for over a decade.
More recently, I've built a no-code automated form-filler and a workflow engine for coordinating LLMs and other generative AI processes, and on top of this a platform for both minimizing hallucinations and working with documents that are far too large for existing context window inputs or outputs using a novel, patent-pending process; and applied these tools to various contracted projects requiring analysis and and cross-checking of information and other forms of integrity across textual and video/audio corpus data in a variety of domains (fiction and non-fiction).
I am also an improvisational pianist, published poet, and I've created novel algorithms and tools for studying and composing both music and poetry.
I have extensive experience working for and running startups, software consulting shops, with some mid-sized company engineering experience as well; these give me a unique insight into speaking with customers and internal stake-holders, translating between engineering and other departments, gathering requirements, aligning stake-holders across departments on a vision and attainable timeline, and architecting/building/taking ownership over significant internal and customer-facing areas of responsibility.
If any of the above seems like a match for you and your organization or project, don't hesitate to reach out.
