Ask HN: According to HN and r/reactjs, NextJS = bad. Yet many sites use it. Why?

Many of the biggest recently built sites use NextJS.
However, whenever I see dev comments about Next on HN, or r/reactjs, it's extremely negative sentiment.
Can anyone help me understand the disconnect between my perceived developer sentiment, and how widely adopted Next has been by some of the biggest sites in the world?
Is this a product decision forced upon devs, or are there lots of devs who love NextJS and they just stay quite on forums? If it is a product call, what are the main drivers here?
