>Multi-Purpose Tap use cases where a single tap unlocks multiple functions (e.g., payment, loyalty rewards, access, or product data). These applications demand higher reliability and a broader operating range to succeed.
This really is a long time coming. An ask for 10 years? 5 years in the making? And probably another 5 years before it is rolled out. (Sigh)
Finally we could get rid of scanning a QR code for loyalty rewards, another code for Shopping Mall points, one code for discount, and then the Apple Pay Payment. How well it will all work together remains to be seen though. Not to mention the whole General NFC response time is still very slow. Felica ( Partly implemented as NFC-F ) despite now being close to 30 years old technology is still so many times better.
It still doesn't solve the paper rescript. Something like "IKEA website shows a verbatim copy of the physical printed receipt in HTML" [1]. If we could just do all the points and payment and receipt within 0.3sec would be great.
Apple used to be very good at pushing standards forward and working at much faster pace. Now they sit at the dominant position and wait until things move forward.
