Why doesn't the New York police free him? Seems like New York gov does not want to really do anything besides statements in newspapers.
Similar to currently popular grilling of appointed bureaucrats by Congress -- looks harsh and strong on video, but achieves nothing. Bureaucrats just shake the shoulders and keep doing their business.

He was taken under custody by Federal police. How would NYPD free him?

>Immigration lawyers told the New York Times that officials do not need judicial warrants to make arrests in immigration courts because they are public spaces.
It's unclear if he was arrested for assault or obstruction, but it sounds like his "judicial warrant" soundbite doesn't have a real basis in law here

This article neglects to mention the actual circumstances of the arrest, making it sound like he was arrested simply for asking for a warrant. The AP article manages to explain the situation more clearly than this article does in their very first sentence:
>...Brad Lander was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court Tuesday after he linked arms with a person that authorities were attempting to detain.
And this justifies them how? The immigration agents refused to show a judicial warrant and the fault is with Lander for not deferring to them as if they were all-powerful beings that can do as they please? Assault it sure as fuck isn't either way.
