Tips for me before I quit IT job to prepare for government job?
I don't think (since this is Nepal) current employer allows a sabbatical for 3 months or so.
# Reasons to quit
- I’ve had arguments with senior team members in the past, and my relationships at work are strained.
- I've already applied in lots of roles and failed 3 interviews in a row. I am now assured that merit has nothing to do with getting a private job in nepal.
- Since I am in ITOps, like linux, webservers, docker, k8s etc. Such opportunities are extremely limited in private IT job. No-name Companies are only seeking for 6+ year experienced people. Clowns.
- The opportunities for ITOps are better in government job.
- Underwhelming social skills and I feel the need to learn social skills. I am not sure how quitting a social situation will help me make more social though lol.
I have all the backing, so I want to quit but before that I want to make sure that I ticked off every box of thought. I mean I am letting go of a live opportunity for something without surity.
The IT/Computer government jobs in Nepal are easier to get into compared to other government jobs(Like administration, accounting etc).
the pay is decent as well. Specially there is no discrimination like crazy in private where they pay you only if you've any leverage irrespective of merit.
Also in some places a government job comes with a pension that a private sector job would not, is that a plus point for moving to a government job ?
WRT Social Skills, I think it's a good idea but I wonder if there are ways of improving your social skills independent of where you are working ? Is Toast Masters something you would consider ? There seem to be a number of options within Nepal https://toastmastersnepal.org/clubs-in-nepal/ .
But small entitled jerks would rather lose everything than have to bow down to someone who makes them behave.
