Because they want to work less. Let's not make it more complicated than it is.

People work for a mixture of money, status and fulfillment. If Money is either unavailable or unnecessary to them or if status is either unavailable or unnecessary to them or if fulfillment is lacking, then people are going to put in less work.

What is very interesting is the simultaneous rise of "hustle culture" and "quiet quitting", because it heavily suggests that young people want more status/money, but see it is unavailable through a normal career path.

Let's "loud quit" the asinine labels. Want to refer to an age range? There are numbers for that.
