I've got multiple friends who decided against working or going to grad school in the US because of the assault on science and immigrants. The brain drain over time is gonna be BAD.

No surprise there, a relative will get his doctorate sometime next year, I have been forwarding him these articles to let him know he can go elsewhere. Funding at his tier one school has been drying up like the Colorado River as it enters Mexico.

His parents are finally realizing the damage Trump is doing. They never liked Trump, but they did not think it would be anywhere near this bad in academia.

As I mentioned here before, off to backwater status the US goes.

My largest fear as the US descends into obscurity, the US will start invading other Countries to take their resources and nothing the other powerful countries could do to stop it due to the massive stockpile of nukes we have :(

Yes, America needs science. Mr. Trump did a bad thing. Yada, yada.

OTOH, from skimming the parade of articles on this subject - my sense is that the pro-Science camp only cares about singing an endless "We are Right, and He is Wrong!" chorus. Vs. taking any action which might have (to put it in milspeak) actual Operational Utility.

From an occasional article in fairly left-wing publications, my impression is that many "Democratic" voters are getting d*mned pissed with how useless the Democratic Party is proving, to oppose Trump on any issue whatever.
