Hey HN, We've been working on CredAnt, a new approach to remote networking that prioritizes simplicity and decentralization. Tired of complex VPN configurations and concerns about centralized servers? We were too. CredAnt is designed to be extremely easy to set up and use. Our goal is zero configuration: install and you're ready to connect to your remote devices as if they were on the same local network.

Key features: • Decentralized Architecture: No central server required, enhancing privacy and eliminating single points of failure. • Minimalist Design: Focuses on core functionality without unnecessary complexity. • Peer-to-Peer Connections: Direct connections whenever possible for low latency and high efficiency. • NAT Traversal: Built-in techniques to overcome NAT restrictions.

Cons: you have to rely on somebody's black box code and hope for no data leaks

your worry is reasonable. Credant is similar as tailscale, using wireguard protocol. In this case you can check the result of traceroute to judge how your devices are connected.
